Juvederm™
Juvederm is a semi-permanent injectable filler for treating facial wrinkles and plumping up lips. Because Juvederm is water-soluble, it fills wrinkles and depressions in the skin with a natural substance while slowly being reabsorbed by the body.
Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid - a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Dr. Polo injects Juvederm under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel. In addition, Juvederm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.
Restylane®
Restylane is fast becoming a popular choice as an injectable filler for treating facial wrinkles, as well as for plumping up lips. Because it is water-soluble, it fills wrinkles and depressions in the skin with a natural substance while slowly being reabsorbed by the body.
Restylane is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance present in the human body called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement that is gentle and safe to your skin.
Restylane is very effective for diminishing wrinkles around the corners of the mouth, the lips, the nasolabial folds (commonly referred to as "parentheses"), and the frown lines (between the eyebrows). Results will last from 6 to 12 months.
Restylane is also an excellent temporary filler for lip augmentation. Experience shows that Restylane is effective for up to six months when injected in the lips. Because the effects of Restylane are not permanent, you have the option to discontinue use if your tastes or fashion trends change.
Radiesse®
Radiesse is a pure, synthetic compound with a record of safety that extends more than 25 years. It is comprised of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite, combined with an aqueous gel. The key element of Radiesse is identical to the chemical structure of calcium naturally present in the human body. Throughout its life, Radiesse remains soft and flexible and also exceptionally compatible with the body.
Prior to its introduction, the Radiesse formula was extensively tested in the United States and Europe. No serious reactions or rejections have been reported to date.
When injected, the cream-like texture of Radiesse feels soft and natural. Unlike temporary treatments that must be repeated, Radiesse may provide years of rejuvenation. However, the resorption rate is variable and we have had some patients in whom the material was gone by 6 months. It is gradually replaced by the body's own tissue, and slowly dissolves away in some cases up to seven years later.
Radiesse is FDA-approved for soft tissue marking in any anatomical location, vocal cord injection and oral and maxillofacial augmentation. FDA approval for facial implant is pending. Internationally, Radiesse has received approval for facial implant and treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
Perlane®
Perlane restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Perlane generally lasts for about 6 months. It has been found to be a safe dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin.
Perlane is injected into the skin with an ultrafine needle. It plumps the skin to smooth away wrinkles and folds. Perlane's water-loving nature attracts and binds water molecules to help maintain volume.
Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the body. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane is a crystal clear gel that is chemically cross-linked (the long chemical strands are tied together) to delay breakdown by skin enzymes. Perlane is non-animal-based and free from animal protein. This quality prevents disease transmission. Allergy pre-testing is not necessary.
Sculptra®
Sculptra® is a type of injectable filler comprised of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It is unique from other types of fillers because it produces gradual, subtle results that occur over time. Sculptra® works by replacing lost collagen, restoring the youthful fullness of the face for a more natural-looking appearance and long-lasting result. It is ideal for treating shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines and chin wrinkles.
Poly-L-lactic acid is a synthetic material that is both biocompatible and biodegradable. It has been used safely for medical purposes for decades. No pre allergy testing is needed and the substance is absorbed naturally by the body over time.
Sculptra® treatments are performed in the office setting on an outpatient basis. The treatment is quick, taking just thirty minutes or so to complete. A topical numbing cream or local anesthetic may be used prior to injection to maximize the patient's comfort. Like any injectable treatment, some minor swelling, redness, bruising or tenderness may occur at the injection site. These side effects typically resolve quickly and most patients are able to immediately return to work and other normal activities. Patients will see some improvement immediately after treatment as well as continued improvement over the next several weeks as new collagen growth occurs and the skin thickness increases.
Treatments with Dr. Polo
Cosmetic consultations with Dr. Polo are required prior to initial treatment ($100 fee applied toward procedure).
Dr. Polo will discuss your options with you for dealing with wrinkles and/or lip augmentation. He will help you understand the pros and cons of each wrinkle treatment, enabling you to make your own decision about wrinkle treatment.
The specific risks and the suitability of each dermal filler can be determined only at the time of your consultation with South Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Polo. All procedures have some degree of risk, but major complications are rare.
A Medicalia CCH Mask application is recommended following all laser, injectable, and/or Botox procedures offered for maximum skin comfort and faster recovery. This cooling treatment relieves irritation, skin heat and redness, and minimizes the risk of discoloration and bruising. $50.
